An A(Maize)ing Experience

Story by Zavier Barrow and Gabrielle Hazen

Despite how our schools are all connected through one state, each foundation of education is done differently. Therefore, making the names of every school in and beyond the district unique. However, due to the matter of going to the same school nearly every day, students are unaware about what is happening at other schools. Which is why two students from West High and Maize High have decided to visit each other's schools and get a brand new perspective on what life is like from both sides.

The experience began on January 26th of 2018 when the two “West Word” editors Zavier Barrow and Gabrielle Hazen accompanied “The Play” Editor Savannah Hughes as she showed them around the Maize establishment. Then the experience was continued on January 29th when two reporters from Maize’s “The Play” joined the two West editors as they experienced the contrast of West.

“Our goal was to break the stereotypes of each school, Maize is suppose to be preppy and stuck-up while West is ghetto and under privileged. We wanted our schools to understand that we’re all the same,” Said Hughes.
