Spring Sports Kick Off!

By Ralph Dayacap

It may not seem like it due to the cold weather but spring is here! With the change of seasons comes the start of a whole set of new sports. Girl's swimming, girl's soccer, softball, baseball, track, boys tennis and boy's golf all kicked off officially on Monday, February 6th, as each team started its practices. Many athletes have been waiting since August for their sport to start. As the season begins  you can see the athletes working hard and practicing to get better.
Spring sports is the most crammed season since the end of the year comes faster than the blink of an eye with teams rushing to play 2 to 3 games a week just to fit everything in before the school year ends. These are student athletes who are also balancing school with sports. It should be a wild end of the year for these student athletes, and many surprising comings to come.

Along with a new season comes many new faces.  Make sure you check out the upcoming West Word Magazine in May, where we are going to be talking about the new Boys Tennis Coach Mr. Christopher High.
Senior Jonathan Ortiz gives it his all to cross the finish line during a track meet at  Maize High School
on April 5th, 2018.
Junior Andrea Castorena lifts her hand up as she sets to kick the ball in-bounds as the girls' soccer team
took on Junction City.
