West High Competing at the State Level

State Wrestling Qualifiers

The end of February was a big time for West High sports. Both wrestling and swimming went to state and came back with placers. Please congratulate these qualifiers for the state wrestling competition.

Nasir Johnson (106 lb. Soph) placed 5th at the state wrestling tournament in late February. This is a major accomplishment considering he's been out of the sport for the past 4 years. Congratulations to Samuel Rushin (160 lb. Fresh), who finished the tournament with a 1-2 record. 


We would like to recognize these others as well, they were one match away from qualifying:
10th Grade Dominic Serna 113 lbs (lost by a few points)
10th Grade Ronnie McKnight 120 lbs (lost by a few points)
09th Grade KyVaunte Adams 126 lbs (lost by one point with 10 secs. on the clock)
10th Grade Mario Perez 220 lbs (wrestled with flu-like symptoms)
12th Grade Tayton Webb 195 lbs
12th Grade Caio Lemos 170 lbs (lost by a few points)

State Swimming Qualifiers


West Swim Team went to the 6A Boys State Swimming and Diving Championship February 15th. We had 2 other relays swim at state, the 200 medley placed 21st and the 400 freestyle relay placed 18th.

David Garcia (12th Grade) medaled placing 2nd in the 50 yard freestyle and 10th in the 100 yard freestyle. He also received 2nd Team All State honors. Please congratulate David on his achievements if you see him!
