Hands On Learning

Seeing the Future With Their Own Hands

West Star Mobile Lab from WSU Tech (formerly Wichita Area Technical College) visited West High Friday morning on March 30th.

WSU Tech advisors spent the morning showing and teaching students about the technology and courses that are offered through WSU.

They taught students about the Aerospace Coatings and Paint Technology, Industrial Automation and Robotics, as well as Industrial Manufacturing and Welding programs.

During the visit, Westar Energy made a $20,000 donation to WSU Tech to help the STEM programs continue developing.

Students go to use a spray painting gun device to experience in 3D what it would be like to paint objects such as car doors.

They also were asked to "program" a robot to get to a specific destination by using specific colors and combinations.

Wearing a virtual helmet students tried their hand at welding. While its not the real thing, WSU Tech says the program simulates welding in a very real fashion.
